Online Project Management – 5 days to no days
Understand how to manage projects is a key business skill, whether you are just managing your own projects or planning a career in project management you need the fundamentals
The Challenge
The motivation was to reduce the time away from work, reduce the overheads of training and to run regional workshops too reduce travel time and cost
This was a two-phase project. The first to bring a 5-day training programme down to 2 weeks online and a 2-day workshop.
The second phase was to make it all online but retain the feeling of interaction and motivation to complete the course.
The Design
The challenge with online/blended is to invent interactive materials that communicate the concepts and the models and to find ways to engage the learner in thinking and applying the learning. It is easy to take existing PowerPoints that have been used for years and use voice-overs to cover the material. The problem is not many people sitting at their desk can stay focused on these for long.
We opted to use the soft drinks company case study that we had developed for another project and adapt it to illustrate the points and pass over the learning. In the first phase this was relatively easy as the project was essentially a flipped learning project – learn the concepts and models online and then apply your knowledge in the classroom with your colleagues. The online materials were presented in the ClearWorth Classroom.
Phase 2 was more of a challenge as we needed to create engagement and independent thinking in the learners. We, therefore, created more interactive presentations to ensure key concepts were available and also more tests and assignments that required the application of the tools and techniques. ClearWorth – using the client’s models created everything from scratch.
For phase 2 all materials were designed to sit in the client’s learning management system. ClearWorth remains involved, marking and giving feedback on the assignments.
